I find that when I am delivering engagements to defined outcomes they are far more meaningful than just managing a project to objectives.  When you focus on outcomes, you are not just ticking off a to-do list, you are delivering real value.

Think of outcomes as the validation of the project.

Did we meet the outcomes?

How do you know?

If your outcomes are not tangible, measurable and quantifiable, I would question their definition.  Go back to the business and seek clarification because you will not reach the intended outcomes.

Outcomes need to be:

Tangible = real (not imaginary)

Measurable = specific (grow monthly user base by 1,000 users)

Quantifiable = metric indicators (anchored in fact)

To make it clear Objectives are NOT Outcomes!

Think of objectives as the GPS checkpoints to tick off on your way to achieving the outcome

(destination).

If you truly want to drive success and leave a lasting impact turn your mindset to embracing an outcome-driven approach.

No one will (should) ever complain if you are trying to elevate the conversation towards outcomes.

I’m keen to know how you elevate the conversation to outcomes in your own projects?
